Our favorite Vietnamese coffee filter by far is the 11 oz Thang Long filter. Most importantly, this filter is made of durable and strong stainless steel, and you can feel when you pick it up that it will last for a long time. The filter and tamper walls are solidly constructed and will allow you to tamp your coffee with the proper amount of pressure. The filter plates are nicely perforated and led to an excellent brewing experience, as the coffee didn’t drip too quickly or too slowly, even when using different grind sizes.
The filter includes two rubber handles, so it’s easy to pick up without burning yourself. One of our favorite parts about this filter is that it’s dishwasher safe, so clean up is a breeze! The tamper is manual, so while it will require some technique to get right, it has fewer moving parts and still allows for the proper water flow through your coffee.
2. Way2top Vietnamese Coffee Filter – Best Value
This filter is also made out of stainless steel, and while it isn’t as thick or durable as our number one filter, it still offers a fair amount of durability, especially for the price. The filters that sit above and below the coffee puck are nicely perforated and lead to a good brewing experience and a delicious and rich cup of coffee. The top has a small handle that makes it easy to remove, but there is only a metal handle on the filter itself, so it can get hot during brewing and require an oven mitt or towel.
The slightly lower quality and the lack of rubber handles kept this out of our number one spot. But, especially given the low cost, we think this is one of the best Vietnamese coffee filters for the money.
3. Copper Cow Coffee Vietnamese Coffee Filters – Premium Choice
These filters from Copper Cow are the only disposable Vietnamese coffee filters on our list, but they still deliver delicious, strong, and complex Vietnamese coffee every morning! These filters are unique in their design, and they’re meant to stretch over your coffee cup and allow you to pour over your hot water just as you would with a permanent filter. The convenience and lack of clean up cannot be beaten! They’re easy to learn to use, and they fit on most standard-sized mugs, so they’re great for anyone looking to get into Vietnamese coffee. However, they are very costly and will be significantly more expensive than buying a permanent filter and grounds.
The price kept these filters out of our top two spots, but they’re still an excellent option for making bold and delicious coffee, especially if you’re looking for convenience and easy cleanup!
4. Update International UPDAT-CI-4 Vietnamese Coffee Filter
This coffee filter from Update International is another permanent filter made out of stainless steel. The quality and thickness of the metal seem lower than previous options, but the durability feels about average. The top has a lift tab for easy opening, and the filter itself includes rubber handles to make removing and pouring easy without burning your fingers. The filters have decently sized perforations, but we would have preferred smaller holes in the bottom filter to create a slower drip; this would lead to more robust and bolder coffee. Overall, the filter makes good Vietnamese coffee, but it will require some practice and technique because of the filter size.
It features a screwing tamper, so getting the puck of coffee properly compressed should be easy for you. Cleanup will also be easy, as the entire filter is dishwasher safe.
5. Heirloom Coffee LLC Vietnamese Traditional Coffee Filter
This filter is made of stainless steel, and all parts except the second base filter feel durable and high quality. The base that suspends your filter over your mug is unique in that it isn’t connected to the rest of the parts. Instead, the bottom is a second filter that sits underneath the coffee. This piece feels pretty flimsy, and the holes are rough around the edges, making it both a bit dangerous and a pain to clean. In addition, the unit isn’t marked as being dishwasher safe, so you’ll need to clean this filter manually.
The filter perforations are a little large, which usually leads to less flavorful coffee overall, but the second filter helps to make delicious coffee. The filter includes rubber handles to prevent burning your fingers, as well as a finger tab on the top for easy opening and closing.
6. TRUNG NGUYEN Vietnamese Coffee Filter
Although Trung Nguyen makes delicious Vietnamese coffee grounds, their filter left a lot to be desired. It’s very affordable, but the low price brings low quality. The filter is made out of stainless steel, but it’s very flimsy and bends easily. While tamping the coffee with the manual tamper, we were afraid to apply the required pressure out of fear of breaking the handle. The filter isn’t marked as being dishwasher safe, so cleaning will have to be done manually.
There are rubber handles to prevent burning your fingers, as well as a finger tab on the lid for easy removal. Even with the double bottom filter, the holes are too large and don’t allow for proper brewing time without technique and skill. Especially given the quality of this filter, we wouldn’t recommend it.

You want to make sure you choose a filter that has properly sized perforations on both the top and the bottom filter plates. Correct sizing will help your coffee turn out strong and bold, as it should be!
Next, you’ll want to keep an eye out for safety measures. Many Vietnamese coffee filters include a lid for covering the coffee and maintaining heat inside. The lid on your filter should have a finger tab that extends beyond your filter’s body that allows you to remove and replace the cover easily, quickly, and without burning yourself on the metal.

Screw vs Manual Tamper
Vietnamese coffee filters come in two different varieties: those with a screwing tamper and those with a manual tamper.
